Lady Eagles remain perfect in conference play

GREERS FERRY — The West Side Lady Eagles, playing without one starter, overcame a slow start before seizing control in a 52-15 win against Izard County Consolidated at Brady-Hipp Arena on Friday.
West Side (2-0 in 2-1A Conference, 4-3 overall) won its second conference game and hope to maintain the momentum. Shawna Carlton scored 13 points for the Lady Eagles, while Alyssa Smith had 10 points. Katie Orf led the Lady Cougars with six points.
“It was homecoming and they came out fired up and ready to play,” West Side coach Megan Berry said. “We were nervous in the beginning with Ashtyn Knapp (ankle injury) out because of an injury. Once we got going, the girls played well.”
Smith made two free throws and a three-point play by Carlton gave the Lady Eagles a 5-3 lead early during the first quarter. Orf made a 3-pointer for Izard County before West Side went on a 12-2 scoring run and took a 17-5 lead going into the second quarter.
The Lady Eagles held Izard County scoreless for the remainder of the first half. West Side scored 19 points and led 36-5 at halftime.
A 12-5 third-quarter run helped the Lady Eagles to a 48-10 lead going into the final eight minutes.
West Side is playing at the Clinton tournament this week.

Heber Springs junior girls fall to Warhawks

HEBER SPRINGS – Mount Vernon-Enola blew open a close game by outscoring Heber Springs, 18-2, in the third quarter to claim a 37-21 victory in junior girls play at the Panther Den.

Heber Springs jumped out to a 9-7 lead after the opening quarter as Taylor Parker had a pair of field goals, Jovie Smithson a 3-pointer and Baleigh Burchfield and Annalyse Wilson each hit one-of-two from the free-throw line.

The Warhawks outscored the Panthers, 8-4, in the second quarter to take a 15-13 lead in the break.

Heber Springs opens season with win over Mount Vernon-Enola

HEBER SPRINGS – Heber Springs outscored Mount Vernon-Enola 14-8 in the third quarter and that proved to be the difference in a 40-35 victory for the Panther junior boys basketball team.

The War Hawks led 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 20-18 at the half, but two 3-pointers by Rhett Herring and one by Samuel Bush helped fuel a third-quarter comeback.

HEBER SPRINGS SCORING (40): Seth Dudeck 9, Liam Buffalo 11, Jacob Haskett 6, Ty West 5, Rhett Herring 6, Samuel Bush 3.

Mount Vernon-Enola tops Heber Springs in 7th-grade girls action

HEBER SPRINGS – The Heber Springs seventh-grade girls basketball team lost its opener to Mount Vernon-Enola, 29-4, on Thursday night.

Mount Vernon-Enola led 21-3 at the half.

Sophie Joyner paced Heber Springs with two points as all of the Panther points came from the free-throw line, where they were 4-of-10.

Heber Springs opens seventh-grade season with win

HEBER SPRINGS – The Heber Springs seventh-grade boys basketball team opened its season with a 21-3 victory over Mount Vernon-Enola.

Heber Springs led 17-3 at the half and were paced by Josiah Riggs’ 9 points.

HEBER SPRINGS SCORING (21): Samuel Bush 8, Josiah Riggs 9, Tanner Graham 1, Landon Brown 2, Bryson O’Neill 1.

MOUNT VERNON-ENOLA SCORING (3): Simpson 1, Loyd 2

JV contest goes to Lady Panthers

GREENBRIER –  Three Heber Springs players in finished in double figures as the Lady Panther junior varsity team downed Greenbrier’s JV, 37-17.

Sophie Stone led Heber Springs with 12 points while Molly Smith finished with 11 and Savannah Stout added 10.

Greenbrier was led by Kamryn Allison’s 10 points as Heber Springs led 7-6 at the end of the first quarter and 18-10 at the half.

The Lady Panthers outscored Greenbrier, 15-2, in the third quarter.

The next junior varsity contest for the senior girls will be on Nov. 30 when they host Southside Batesville.
